The circulation of Polar Surface Water and freshwater around Greenland

  • Participating scientists
  • Bert Rudels (project leader)

Project goals

The project aims to study the outflow of low salinity polar water east and west of Greenland and the input and circulation of freshwater from the Greenland ice sheet. Special attention will be given to the circulation in Baffin Bay and its possible role as a choke point for the outflow of low salinity polar water through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and for the export of freshwater from the Arctic Ocean to the North Atlantic.

The project is a cooperation with FMI and with the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and the Greenland Climate Research Center.
