2b. Laboratory shock experiments: diabase

Project goals

We have shocked the 1.1 Ga old Laanila diabase sample at 0 - 35 GPa to study the shock induced changes in rocks and minerals in order to shed light to geophysical modellings of impact structures.

Shock is clearly increasing porosity (decreasing density) and decreasing magnetic susceptibility.
