Project goals

The goal is to test the Superia supercraton model by Bleeker and Ernst (2006) with new paleomagnetic data of the ~2.3 Ga Taivalkoski dykes during 2.45-2.1 Ga.

Highlights

  • Paleomagnetic and rock magnetic studies on the 2.45-2.1 Ga Taivalkoski diabase dykes of Karelia, East Finland do not support the Superia supercraton model of Bleeker and Ernst (2005). The new U-Pb baddeleyite age of 2339 ± 18 Ma for one of the dykes defines a new magmatic pulse in Karelia.
