A Minisymposium on Bose-Einstein Condensation was held in Helsinki on March 25-27, organised by Stig Stenholm (Helsinki Institute of Physics) and Kalle-Antti Suominen (Department of Physics). The symposium was financially supported by the Academy of Finland. The invited speakers were among the top specialists in the field, including Wolfgang Ketterle from MIT, and the informal symposium had about 40 participants, with a clear international representation.

A workshop on Synthesis of Light Nuclei in the Early Universe was organized by H. Kurki-Suonio, K. Kainulainen and K. Kajantie at Trento, Italy, on June 23 - July 4. About 40 scientists participated in the workshop arranged in the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nucler Physics and Related Areas, ECT*.
