RESEARCH COLLABORATION

The Department of Physics has wide collaboration with many foreign universities and research centres: 112 European institutes in addition to the about 50 domestic ones; 39 institutes in North, 3 in Central and 1 in South America; 9 institutes in Asia and 1 in Israel.

Fourteen foreign scientific visitors worked in the Department for longer than one month (altogether 26.5 months), 10 visited for more than two weeks (altogether 5.5 months) and 23 persons paid a shorter visit. Of the departmental staff 19 persons visited foreign research centres for periods longer than one month (altogether 107.2 months, 6 people spent a whole year abroad) and 21 people for more than 2 weeks (altogether 11.25 months).

The research groups of the Department are in co-operation with tens of university departments in Finland (University of Helsinki, about 15 departments in 4 faculties, Helsinki University of Technology 10 laboratories, Technical Research Centre of Finland 10 departments, University of Jyväskylä, University of Kuopio, Tampere University of Technology, University of Turku, Åbo Akademi, 10-20 other state or research institutes) and with research institutes in both physics and interdisciplinary research.

Collaboration with the Helsinki Institute of Physics (HIP), of which prof. Juhani Keinonen is a board member, is being developed both in research and post-graduate education.
