Year 2012 in the Physics Department
Our Department has four strategic projects, namely atmospheric sciences, bilingual teaching, geosciences, and space physics. These will be financed by the Rector, Faculty, and Department.
The Higgs boson was discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva. Finnish particle physicists have been essential contributors in the LHC’s CMS experiment ever since the initial phases in the beginning of 1990's.
The Department has been successful in actively engaging the top-level researchers in teaching, which ensures that the best expertise and the most up-to-date insights in physics are available to students. The need of professionalism in teaching is also noted, and many of the teachers have attended courses of university pedagogy in order to improve their teaching skills.
